With a spectacular view of the Hudson River, this 3-bedroom/3.5 bathroom loft renovation for first-time parents combines crisp modern detailing with the warmth and textures of wood and other natural materials.
In an effort to better define the entry, a textured wooden volume was introduced, housing functional elements such as a mudroom and a powder room. With a poured black concrete floor and corresponding blackened palette, this area playfully contrasts with the ample daylight that pours into the rest of the apartment from all four exposures.
Poured hand-troweled concrete floors are in every bathroom, with custom coordinated pre-cast elements such as a basin and shower bench in the Master Bathroom. This finished architectural concrete is a variation on the concrete structural column prominently featured in the hall, its imperfections left intact like a 'found object'.
Against a backdrop of modern precision and pared down white surfaces, fine millwork, metal accents and textured stone contribute to the tactile character of the apartment. The furnishings selected are woody and warm, taking a strong cue from classic Scandinavian designs. These complete the picture of this bright, serene and comfortable home.
